Notes from the Archive: Studio Job, founded in 2000 by Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel, is best known for combining a high level of craftsmanship with extreme ornamentation. Their work sits on the border between art and design, and their iconography moves from traditional or primitive, to symbolic and monumental. Their style has been referenced as "neo-gothic" due to the complex combination of symbolic ornamentation and the message it implies. Fog Banks depicts a building of authority, with clouds swirling around it. Perhaps making commentary on the uncertainty of political power. On the back a dancing couple are surrounded by clouds, as well.  A comprehensive retrospective, "Studio Job; MADHOUSE" will be shown March 22-August 21 at the Museum of Art & Design in New York City.
