Notes from the Archive: Albert Paley's sculpture, "Portal" was included in the 2005-2007 Vancouver Biennale Exhibition. During one of his visits to the exhibition, Albert had the opportunity to visit New Leaf Editions on Granville Island in Vancouver, British Columbia. The collaborative printmaking workshop was established by Peter Braune in 1985 with the goal to offer artists full expressions through printmaking. Here Paley experimented with the lithographic process in combination with drypoint drawings. There were two prints completed, both relating to the motifs in his sculpture "Portal" in the exhibition.  Following is a quote about his experience: My involvement with aesthetics has gone through various phases over the years. In this evolution the constant has always been my focus on personal awareness and perception. My investigation in form development centers on the exploration of material characteristics, related processes and technologies. In creating a work of art, besides my personal experience, my concern is how it emotionally and intellectually engages the viewer. Through the creative process I have developed a personal visual vocabulary fundamentally based in symbolism and metaphor which is implicit in my work.
