Notes from the archive: This exhibition and book are extraordinary due both to the incredible designs by thirty top architects and the exquisite quality of the silver production, as directed and overseen with by visionary, Cleto Munari. In Paolo Portoghesi's introduction he refers to Cleto Munari as a "Signore" defined as "an aristocratic collectionist of beautiful things that he gathers not merely for the pleasure of admiring them but also 'to see them being born'."

Gae Aulenti's Coffee and Tea Set is most memorable, along with the multiple pieces designed by Carlo Scarpa, Hans Hollein, Vico Magistretti and Ettore Sottsass. Other notable designers include Mario Bellini, Mario Botta, Achille Castiglioni, Michele De Lucchi, Alessandro Mendini, Matteo Thun and Peter Shire. Massimo and Lella Vignelli's design of a coffee set includes a slithering snake forming the spout and handle of a pyramid-shaped coffeepot, another coiling around an egg shaped sugar bowl, a third's body forming the handle with his head taking a view from the top of the creamer and the last one wiggling to create the handle of the spoon for the sugar. A charming and modern design highlighting the incredible artistic production by Italian artisans in silver.
