Details: Prototype for the Vitra Design Museum 1:6 scale miniature from 2002.  Only one available. Chair originally  designed in 1945 and put into production by 1946. This miniature was produced in a limited production run due to the limited availability of the miniature goat hides used for correct scale.  Miniature and full size chairs no longer in production with fur - although in wood it is one of the Eames best selling design.  The full size chair in wood is in production and is manufactured by Herman Miller in the US and by Vitra in Europe.
Notes from the Archive: The Vitra Design Museum Miniature Collection was originally planned as a study collection for museums and universities. The concept was to produce miniatures of the actual chairs in the Vitra Design Museum's famous collection of modern chairs.  The miniatures are produced as exact replicas in a 1:6 scale with authentic finishes (if the real chair was varnished by hand, the miniature has the same finish) and meticulous to-scale hardware and fasteners (the screws really work!) These miniature models offered exact replicas for study purposes but also promoted modern design and the museum's vast collection. Here the LCW in fur, is a very special version of one of Charles and Ray Eames best loved designs in molded plywood.
