Notes from the Archive: After launching Acme Studio in 1985 with a successful limited edition collection of jewelry by Peter Shire, Adrian Olabuenaga contacted Ettore Sottsass and many other designers of the world-renowned Memphis collection to design jewelry utilizing a cloisonné enamel technique. Sottsass designed an iconic collection of necklaces, earrings, brooches and bolo ties. He later went on to design the home and studio for Acme Studio owners, Adrian Olabuenga and partner Lesley Bailey in Maui, Hawaii. The Memphis Designers for Acme collection debuted in 1986, at the opening of the Memphis/Milano exhibition at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York City. The entire collection is in the permanent collection of the Groninger Collection in The Netherlands and is represented in other museum collections worldwide. The San Marco brooch is from the Acme Studios vault and once these last few are sold, they will be gone forever, making them extremely sought after.
