Notes from the Archive: Michele De Lucchi was a founding member of Memphis, having collaborated with Ettore Sottsass early on, working with Studio Alchimia and Olivetti. The use of stripes in his work began in his early designs for Alchimia and continued into his many designs for Memphis, including furniture, laminate design and textiles. Included in the photos are some of his sketches for this lamp, which suggest an earnest and comic personality. Here the anthropromorphic shape of the lamp along with the Venetian inspired striped pattern offers a charming lighting solution for a table, pedestal or desk use. An excellent example of the optimistic message in the early designs of Memphis.
