Notes from the Archive: Charles and Ray Eames are among the most important American designers of the 20th Century.  This chair design was originally produced in metal and shown in MoMA's 1948 International Competition for Low Cost Furniture. Later the chairs were made in fiberglass and now are offered in recycled polypropylene, offering the design the matte finish the designers always wanted.
