Notes from the Archive: As early as 2001, Paley began to experiment with a simplified sculptural form related to this theme in forged, fabricated and blackened steel. Then in 2007, he began designing a major sculpture for the Trenton Transit Center in Trenton, NJ and a similar vocabulary seemed appropriate for the site specific work. The final version, titled Zenith, was installed in 2008. It is over 33 feet in height and is polychromed in deep blues, moving upward into magentas with the spiraled tendrils standing out in bright yellows and oranges.  Here, Spiral utilizes the most luxurious of all metal materials, stainless steel, which Paley lyrically forms and fabricates into perfect harmony, intertwining complex and extremely refined, yet simple shapes with extraordinary finesse. An important work by Albert Paley, perfect for either a domestic or commercial indoor setting.
