Notes from the Archive: Originally designed in 1966 by Warren Platner as the centerpiece of a now-famous collection including tables, chairs, and an ottoman. The process of welding steel rods to circular frames creates a moire pattern in the hourglass shape as seen in the table and chair bases. Platner was awarded the Rome Prize for Architecture in 1955 and is best known for his designs for the Windows on the World Restaurant in the World Trade Center. These chairs represent an iconic steel wire design that has become Platner's signature statement in furniture design.
