Details: Originally designed in 1951, this example acquired from Vitra directly from Germany circa 2000. In very good condition. Seat and back cushions are removable. This design won the Eames' their first American mechanical patent. This example is an authentic and original design - not a knock-off.
Notes from the Archive: Charles and Ray Eames arranged for their offices at Vitra in Weil am Rhein, Germany to be right in the middle of the manufacturing floor, so they could be inspired by the production work surrounding them. The pedestal base is often referred to as the "Eiffel Tower" base due to its resemblance to the cast iron Paris landmark. This all-wire chair design was both revolutionary and surprisingly comfortable with the addition of the seat and back cushion nicknamed the "bikini" and remains an icon of the era.
