Notes from the archive: At once, an iconic example of Italian design and quintessential "found object" with roots to Picasso and Duchamp's sculptures using banal objects to create a new work of art. Also a very comfortable "seat"! 100 Masterpieces catalogue by the Vitra Design Museum notes, "The Castiglioni brothers consider an object to be successful when all superfluous elements have been removed, and the object has been reduced to its essentials, yet lent optimal formal expression."
