Details: Hand-signed in pencil Kipniss on right side under image and trial proof on left side under image. Printed using two plates (one for the sky). Final edition of 60 plus 10 artist proofs. Generally up to five trial proofs were pulled on various papers or inks for comparison. This example on light cream paper.

Notes from the Archive: Drypoint is an intaglio printmaking process traditionally created on a metal plate using a steel "needle" to create the lines of the drawing. The burr of the metal shavings are left in place, to create a softer, textured line produced on the paper by ink that adheres to the burr, as well as the indentations of the line. Drypoint editions are generally small, as the burr can wear down under the pressure from the press.

Kipniss deftly uses scale and the perspective of the buildings in relationship to the open field and contrasts the houses to the stark bare trees. A modern landscape enhanced by his use of this century-old printmaking technique!
Kipniss' work is represented in the permanent collections of hundreds of museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the British Museum in London and the Bibliothèque National in Paris.
