Notes from the archive: Shortly after the Architectural League of New York staged the exhibit, “The Chair Fair”, the idea for this book was formed. The hundreds of chairs present varying definitions of “chair” but all have in common the capability to be sat upon. The Chair Fair was judged by Milton Glaser, Richard Artschwager, Mario Bellini, Tim Prentice and Lella Vignelli. The collection of images is introduced with an essay by Art Critic of The Nation magazine and Columbia Professor Arthur C. Danto.
