Title: Pluvia Vase 1997

Details: Produzione Privata is the experimental laboratory of Michele De Lucchi. It was founded in 1990, as a continuation of the Memphis movement, to design and implement experimental works with the maximum freedom of expression. This vase was produced in very limited numbers from 1997- 2011, due to the extensive hand finishing of the cast iron and the difficulty of finding craftsman to collaborate with on the production of a handful of the precise cast iron moulds.
Notes from the Archive: "My biggest inspirations come from the strangest and most unexpected combinations of different cultural, technical, scientific and artistic positions. The world is increasingly a big soup where everything fits together and where the skill lies in capturing aggregations never considered before." In the Pluvia Vase, Michele De Lucchi uses two disparate materials probably never considered together before, as the solution for a simple vase using a heavy material often used for garden furniture in combination with the apparent lightness of transparent glass. Aptly named, Pluvia translates to rain, which is also both transparent and heavy at the same time. He first presented this vase at an exhibition of watercolors in a monastery in Germany and it coincidentally was raining heavily that day. The Pluvia Vase embodies simultaneous qualities of modernism and antiquity, with a fresh look, yet the feel of something, inexplicably ancient.
