Notes from the Archive: California native, Johanna Grawunder worked for Sottsass Associati from 1985 - 2001, designing both architecture and interiors for the firm, and becoming a partner in 1989. In 2001, she opened her own studio in San Francisco with offices in Milan. The Viper Coffee Table highlights Grawunder's interest in alternative materials with her use of a painted rubber finish, offering a flat black finish with a soft feel. The fluorescent bulbs cut horizontally between the two halves of the table, as if connecting the table with beams of light. The wiring and connections are not completely hidden, offering the solution behind the magical impression.
