Notes from the Archive: The design of these paperweights relate to Paley's work for the interiors of Rosecliff Inc., which was commissioned by Peter Joseph. There the offices had glass walls, and the medallion designs were repeated as 'tufts' of steel which joined one glass panel to the next. The medallions seemed to literally float in mid-air. They were not only decorative but also stabilized the 12 foot high, free-standing glass panels. Additionally Paley designed numerous desks and other pieces to furnish the award winning interiors. These paperweights are similar in style and patina to the medallions, and each one in the edition is slightly different in patina and surface texture.
