Notes from the ArchiveHella Jongerius' work straddles the boundaries between craft and industrial design. The New York Times design critic, Alice Rawsthorn, mentions Jongerius' "greatest achievement is to have introduced ambiguity and sensuality to the clinical culture of industrial design."  She is best known for her designs for textiles for Maharam, furnishings for Vitra and shoes for Camper. Her work is in the permanent collection of museums world-wide. The word "polder" refers to the low-lying flatlands now used for agricultural purposes that have been reclaimed from the sea. The Polder sofa evokes the characteristics of the Dutch polder landscape.
