Jurors for the competition were Lorry Parks Dudley (our founder, then Director of Peter Joseph Gallery), Keith Kutch, Furniture Design Program Director, Parsons School of Design and Adam St. John, President and Founding Director of the American Society of Furniture Artists. Very good condition, clean on text pages with very fine black and white photographic reproductions. Very rare catalogue.

Notes from the archive: This is an exhibition catalog of 20 studio furniture artists selected from over 550 entries. These pieces provide a view into what the American Society Of Furniture Artists (ASOFA) defines as a Style without a name. The introduction explains, “How can we refuse? We respond almost involuntarily: step forward, reach out a hand, burrow in deep with our eyes and emotions through layers of ideas and images, time and space, rhythm and balance, texture and technique, form and metaphor. Perhaps that explains, in part the astonishing power of this movement we cannot name.” Each piece in this exhibit is both classic and “tongue-in-cheek” while clearly, deftly executed in material and form. ASOFA states that a reason for advancing this movement in furniture is to “… integrate art furniture into peoples’ daily lives and extend(s) art beyond traditional boundaries while educating the public on the value of this particular form.”
